Ramayana Month Celebrations - 2026

Chinmaya Swayambhu Ayyappa Temple Trust celebrates Ramayana Month at Chinmaya Swayambhu Temple. The major attraction of the month-long celebrations is the Ramayana Satsangs (in Malayalam) daily from 8.30 AM IST.

🕉️ Ramayana Satsangs (in Malayalam)
Date: Jul 17 – Aug 17 2026
Time: 8:30 AM IST

🌸 According to the Malayalam Calendar, Karkidaka Masam (Shravana Month) is observed as Ramayana Masam, when the whole month is dedicated to the study of Ramayana. Due to heavy rains experienced throughout the month, it is often referred to as ‘the month of scarcity’. To ward off nature’s fury, Ramayana is read in temples and houses to invoke the blessings of Lord Sri Rama, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.

🕉️ Ganapati Homa: The Morning Ritual for Removing Obstacles
Performed at the break of dawn (Brahma Muhurta), Ganapati Homa is a sacred fire ritual dedicated to Lord Ganesha, the Vighnaharta (Remover of Obstacles).
✨ Overcoming Practical & Spiritual Hurdles: The hardships of the monsoon month can create mental blocks, lethargy, and external delays. Invoking Lord Ganesha first thing in the morning ensures that one’s daily life, spiritual practices, and family duties proceed smoothly without disruption.
✨ Purification of the Environment: The smoke from the Homa fire, infused with the chanting of powerful Vedic mantras and offerings like ghee and medicinal herbs, purifies the damp monsoon air, eliminating negative energies and disease-causing pathogens from the household.

🕉️ Bhagavati Seva: The Evening Ritual for Prosperity and Protection
Performed after sunset, Bhagavati Seva is a highly revered, elaborate ritual dedicated to Devi (the Divine Mother—Rajarajeshwari, Durga, or Bhadrakali) in her benevolent yet powerful aspect. It is traditionally performed around a beautifully decorated Padmam (a ritualistic drawing made with colorful natural powders) and a large lighted brass lamp (Nilavilakku).
✨ Warding off Misfortune & Planetary Afflictions: Karkidakam is considered an astrologically vulnerable transit period. Worshipping the Divine Mother through Bhagavati Seva is believed to nullify the malefic effects of planets and shield the family from unseen miseries, sudden losses, and negativity.
✨ Invoking Health & Sustenance: Because this season was historically tied to poverty and pestilence, the Divine Mother is invoked as Annapoorneshwari and Lakshmi to ensure that the household does not suffer from a lack of food, health, or financial stability.
