About Mahalaya Amavasya
Mahalaya Amavasya marks the culmination of Pitru Paksha—a sacred fortnightly period dedicated to remembering and offering gratitude to our ancestors.
It is considered an exceptionally powerful time for spiritual introspection, performing ancestral rites (such as Tila Homam), and invoking divine grace to attain peace, liberation, and inner alignment.

Temple Rituals & Sevas

⏰ 6:30 AM — Tila Homam
○ Venue: Chinmaya Swayambhu Ayyappa Temple, Adi Sankara Nilayam
○ Puja Offering: ₹1001
○ Participation: Devotees can participate in this auspicious occasion by booking
Tila Homam. The rituals will be performed on your behalf by the temple priests.

⏰ 11:00 AM — Sankalpa & Kathopanishad Parayana
📖 Parayana of first chapter of Kathopanishad is considered very auspicious for the appeasement of Pitrs.
○ Venue: Melpazhur Mana, Adi Sankara Nilayam
○ Puja Offering: ₹501
○ Facilitator: Brni. Sugandha Agnihotri

⏰ 1:00 PM — Annadanam (₹12,000)
✨ Offering food for Sanyasins and Sadhaks in the name of Pitrs is very special on this day.

⏰ 6:30 PM — Chuttuvilakku (₹5,000)
🪔 Lighting 1008 lamps in the temple is like ‘Moksha Pradeepa’ – lighting lamps for ‘Sadgati’ of Pitrs.
