Diwali – Mahalakshmi Puja

The Significance of Diwali (Deepavali)

Diwali, or Deepavali, is one of the most sacred festivals in the Hindu calendar. It celebrates the eternal victory of Light over darkness, Knowledge over ignorance, and Dharma over adharma. Across traditions, the festival commemorates Lord Rama’s return to Ayodhya after fourteen years of exile, the emergence of Goddess Lakshmi from the cosmic ocean during the Samudra Manthan, and the triumph of Lord Krishna over the demon Narakasura. Lighting lamps on this darkest night of the lunar month symbolises the awakening of the inner light of wisdom and the welcoming of Divine Grace into one’s life and home.

Mahalakshmi Puja on Diwali

On the sacred night of Diwali, devotees specially invoke Goddess Mahalakshmi, the embodiment of prosperity, purity, auspiciousness, and spiritual abundance. Mahalakshmi is not merely the giver of material wealth; she bestows all forms of prosperity – health, knowledge, courage, harmony, and the capacity to live a life of generosity and grace. Performing Mahalakshmi Puja on this night is believed to invite Her divine presence into the home and heart, removing obstacles and blessing the devotee with lasting well-being and inner richness.

The Sacred Significance of Adi Sankara Nilayam

This Mahalakshmi Puja will be conducted at Thekkini in Adi Sankara Nilayam, the revered maternal birth-home of Sri Adi Sankaracharya, the great exponent of Advaita Vedanta. Situated in the serene village of Veliyanad, Kerala, this sacred Illom is where Aryamba, the holy mother of Adi Sankara, gave birth to him according to tradition. It is also the place where His Vidyarambha (initiation into learning) and Upanayana (sacred thread ceremony) were performed. Performing the puja in this hallowed space – steeped in the spiritual vibrations of the birth and early life of one of India’s greatest spiritual masters – makes the occasion especially powerful and grace-filled.

Join us for a sacred Mahalakshmi Puja on the auspicious occasion of Diwali, led by Brahmachari Ved Chaitanya. The puja will invoke the blessings of Goddess Mahalakshmi for prosperity, peace, and well-being of all devotees.
